rummage
My mom has been scouring our house for the past week in preparation for our rummage sale tomarrow. Hopefully we can get rid of all of our junk.

new place
We sign our lease agreement tonight after work for our new apartment. I think I will start moving in on Saturday. Unfortunatly, I have no furniture. I have a bed and that is about it. Also, I will have no internet for a while:( When Chelsey moves in though we will have a couch. We will be in the market for a kitchen table, coffee table(s) and I need a dresser too.

eurospring pics

I finally got around to getting some of my pictures scanned from my Europe trip. I will be putting them in a photo gallery or just posting a new one everyday for a while. In the meantime you can see some of my companion's pics here.

why didn't this happen to me in may?
I work in Online Services on campus. It is a subdivision of Computer Support. I had applied for a job in CS when I applied in Online Services. CS had told me that they couldn't hire me for the summer, but in the fall they would need someone. Okay, try to find a summer job. Online Services emails me and sets up an interview. I'm hired on the spot.

So, today a lady from CS approaches me and asks if I could start working for them. They are losing staff for the summer and need some more help. Okay, I can do that, I only work part time for OS. Then my supervisor reminds me that my co-worker is going out of town for over a week and she'll need me all the time.

Before I tried to get those jobs I tried to get my old coffee shop job at Uptown Caffe back, but they didn't need me till fall either. Now, one girl is going back to school soon and they'd like me to come back.

Now that I've gone through the whole summer pretty much broke and not being able to work full time with my baton instructor job, I can work all I want! Why didn't this happen 3 months ago when I desperatly needed money, was bored, and I could have saved a little for the school year. Instead, I'll be working my butt off this fall at 2 or 3 jobs and trying to take a full load of classes, do computer science research, lead youth group at church, and do the website for a local campaign!

the internet so rocks
I feel like I just met a celebrity. I got up the courage to email comments to one of my blog heros, Daniel Miller and he answered back immediately! Aparently I have a common face, cause every new person I meet says I look familiar (I sent him my blog url and it of couse has my pic). hurray for the internet!

Fees
$175.53 is the amount of "financial aid" i'll have after tuition and fees. i guess i can live on that. speaking of fees what is with the computer science fee doubling from last year?
Those of us who love peace must organize as effectively as the war hawks. As they spread the propaganda of war - we must spread the propaganda of peace.

Separation
Sin keeps us from hearing distinctly, seeing clearly or living joyfully…basically, sin keeps us from God.

danielsjourney // seeking stories beauty meaning

Daniel Miller just finished recording his album! He is scheduled to play at Greenbelt. If I wasn't in debt, moving into a new apartment, and had a companion that is into postmodern christian stuff as much as I am, I'd go to England to see him play.

BUSH AND THE UNNATURAL FALLACY

The illogical leap from "is" to "ought" is called the "natural fallacy,"... Just because something is the case does not mean that it ought to be so. You can't get there from here.

Richard Cohen of The Washington Post argues that President Bush seems to base much of his decision-making on a weirdly inverted form of this fallacy -- the idea that "Because it ought to be, it is."

While equally illogical, the effect is startlingly different. Perpetrators of the natural fallacy see the world as it is, and from this draw unreasonable conclusions about how the world ought to be. Their perception of the world itself remains accurate, but their perception of justice and morality is a fantasy. Bush, Cohen argues, begins with his perception of justice and morality -- which may or may not be valid -- and reconstructs the world to fit this vision. Thus his perception of the world as it is becomes a fallacious fantasy.

Time magazine's Joe Klein, like Cohen, engages in some speculative psycho- and metaphysical-analysis of the president.

We can allow these columnists a bit of leeway for their speculation because the president himself refuses to answer questions about what he is thinking. And when he says something like this -- "And we gave [Saddam Hussein] a chance to allow the inspectors in, and he wouldn't let them in. And, therefore, after a reasonable request, we decided to remove him from power ..." -- it is clear that speculation will be required to try to figure out what on earth the president is thinking and how it relates, even tangentially, to the reality the rest of the world is living in.

... I would find it much more reassuring if we could be sure that President Bush was simply a liar.

insight from TheyBlinked
there is a difference that makes a difference. there is a passion that invests action with a guilded meaning shrouded in the humility of wholeheartedness. there are unorchestated patterns within time that forever mark the fabric of existence in the encoded memory of all that is in this energy transferal called self, life and reality.

it is not enough to speak in affirmations or rejections. it begs the question to simply write off through confession or denial. life must be lived. an attempted arrest of life through the incarcerating narrations of another time and place is forever a fearful posture that drains the blood of what-could-be in the perverting repetition of what has been.

Episcopals
on the occation of the upcoming Episcopal Church gathering in Minn:

When Christianity moved out of the Jewish orbit and into the Mediterranean world it confronted a dualistic neo-Platonism that denigrated the flesh and suggested that marriage was a compromise with sin. The holy life was interpreted to be the celibate life. This, in turn, attracted men into the priesthood who, because of their homosexual desires, wanted to hide from the pressure to get married. The evidence is clear that the priesthood of the Western Church became the largest closet in which gay men hid their sexual orientation during the middle Ages. This theory has been fully documented in a monumental study on homosexuality in the Church up until 1400 by Yale historian John Boswell....

Living Arrangements
I found a place to live for the next year. $575/mth including utilites, close to BSU, close to parents, close to work, off street parking. I hope Chelsey agrees, cause if not I need a new roommate. Unfortunately, we have to take it for the month of August, which means paying $1150 by Friday. And if I'm paying for it, I'm moving in Saturday.

Opera
I downloaded Opera 7.1 last night. I had used it on my old college computer while I was at school and liked it a lot cause my computer is way slow. But on XP and trying to edit with blogger it doesn't seem so spectacular.

Make a difference, one click at a time...
jordoncooper.com :: more living, less punditry
Ahoy,

One of the great things about blogs is that we talk (and talk) about things but we often fall short in taking any action. Here is an idea that would allow us to make a difference.

Add the Hunger Site, Rainforest Site and Build a School Site to your blog and everytime you check out your blogroll, click on each of them and those sites sponsers will help feed a child and build schools for those who have no access to education and save 11.4 square feet of rainforest.

It won't save the world overnight but it will buy some food for a child, help the enviroment and maybe give some kids a tool (literacy) that they wouldn't have had before.

Stuck on You
Every now and then, when I'm all alone
I'll be wishing you will call me on the telephone
Say you want me back, but you never do
I feel like such a fool there's nothing I can do
I'm such a fool for you

I can't take it, what am I waiting for?
My heart's still breaking I miss you even more
And I can't fake it the way I could before
I hate you but I love you
I can't stop thinking of you
It's true, I'm stuck on you

- Stacie Orrico

Getting through
I gotta get through this
I gotta take my, take my mind off you

Give me just a second and I'll be all right
Surely one more moment couldn't break my heart
Give me 'til tomorrow then I'll be okay
Just another day and then I'll hold you tight

When your love is falling like the rain
I close my eyes and it falls again
When will I get the chance to say I love you
I pretend that you're already mine
Then my heart ain't breaking every time
I look into your eyes

- Daniel Bedingfield

Heartbreaker
Your love is like a tidal wave, spinning over my head
Drownin' me in your promises, better left unsaid
You're the right kind of sinner, to release my inner fantasy
The invincible winner, and you know that you were born to be
You're a Heartbreaker
Dream Maker, Love Taker
Don't you mess around with me!
You're a Heartbreaker
Dream Maker, Love Taker
Don't you mess around

Your love has set my soul on fire, burnin' out of control
You taught me the ways of desire, now its takin' its toll
You're the right kind of sinner, to release my inner fantasy
The invincible winner, and you know that you were born to be

- Pat Benatar

Addicted
I know I am lame for liking this band, but this is how I feel and I'm giving in to pop culture

Addicted
I heard your doing ok, but I want you to know
I'm addicted to you
I can't pretend I don't care when you don't think about me
Do you think I deserve this?
I tried to make you happy, but you left anyway

I'm trying to forget that I'm adicted to you
But I want it and I need it, I'm addicted to you
Now its over, and I can't forget what you said
And I never want to do this again

real live preacher
I drop my disc bag and unzip it. They catch the flash of color and understand that I have serious plastic. All high quality. All fly-dye. You don't carry discs like this unless you know what you're doing.

I pull out a handful of paperback New Testaments and pass them around. I'm one short. I hesitate a second, then pull a beer out of my disc bag and give that to the last guy.

“Sorry dude, I'm out of bibles.”

They receive these gifts like some people receive communion – with childlike stares. It seems like something important is happening, but they aren't exactly sure what it is.

I put my hand up like a gospel singer to feel the air. The breeze is with me and slightly right, so I pull out my 170-gram Cheetah, the one with the very cool dye job. I roll my head around and work my wrist a couple of times before yankin that sumbitch down the fairway, right-center. My snap is enough to turn it over a bit, so it yawns right before fading left and parking right at the base of the basket.

“Booyah.”

While I’m gathering up my shit I can hear the silence behind me. I turn around and give em the good word.

"That’s the power of prayer, my sons. The power of prayer. Now turn from your wicked-ass ways."
